What Is Church?
Church is when we gathered together in the name of Jesus, and a community of support throughout the week.
Who are we?
We are a mixed group of people made up of different ages, backgrounds, nationalities, with many different experiences of life.
What do we do?
We get on with life like we all have to do.
One important thing we do is meet together on Sundays, when we pray, sing, listen to teaching from the Bible and enjoy each other’s company.

What can I expect when I visit Church?
We welcome everyone no matter who you are.
Someone is always at the door to help. They will be very happy to help you with any questions or concerns you have about what to expect
Our meetings have an easy-to follow format and the person at the front makes it clear what happens next.
We are committed to explaining the Bible in a way which connects with life in the 21st century and can be understood by all.
We have crèche for babies & toddlers and Sunday school for Years 1-6 children during the morning meeting.
There is tea and coffee served after the morning and evening meetings.
We would love to see you on a Sunday and to get to know you over time.
Come along! You are welcome regardless of background, level of interest, religious beliefs, or life circumstances.
Where are we?
We meet at Radcliffe Road Baptist Church

On Sundays we meet at 10.30am and at 6.00pm
On the first Sunday of the month many of us stay on after the morning meeting for a Bring & Share lunch.
What do I wear?
Come as you are! There is no dress code, all are welcome!
What if my kids are noisy?
We have lots of children each week and we’re used to noise! Those leading our services are more than able to cope with some noise; most are, or have been, parents themselves and know only too well what you’re feeling!
I’m nervous about walking in to a strange place
Going anywhere new for the first time can be difficult. One of our top priorities is to make you feel comfortable and we fully expect our regular attenders to look out for and welcome people they haven’t seen before. You are very welcome to contact us in advance so someone can look out for you as you arrive.
How will I know when to stand/sit?
Most people sit for all of the service except when we sing. But some are happier to sit even when singing and that’s completely fine.
Do I have to sing?
No. If you don’t want to sing the easiest way to blend in is to stand up and simply look at the screen with the words! You are also free to remain sitting.
Will I be expected to pray?
No. Most praying out loud is done by the service leader
Is there disabled access?
Yes; there is disabled and wheelchair access to the building and toilet facilities available.
Will I understand the Bible?
Every week we have people who are unfamiliar with the Bible and others who don’t speak English as a first language. Therefore those who give the Bible message make sure that what they say is understandable and connects the Bible truth to modern life.

Are you religious?
You may have been brought up to go to Sunday school and church. Perhaps you still go to church, either occasionally or even quite frequently. However if you were really honest you would have to admit that you don’t really know God in a personal way. God is a somewhat vague, distant and unreal idea in your mind. The good news is that it is possible to know God in a personal way through Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit.
You don’t need religion
You feel you don’t need to get involved in religion. This is because life has gone reasonably well for you. There have been problems from time to time but you’ve worked hard and stuck at it and come through. In particular you feel that everything is OK because basically you are a decent sort of person. You try to help other people. You certainly aren’t as bad as many people and that gives you the confidence that God won’t be hard on you and will allow you a place in heaven. What you need to realise is that your very best is not good enough to deal with the sin problem that we all have. God’s view is this – that we’re all sinners and fall short of the mark. We all need Jesus if we are to have our sins forgiven.
Are you an atheist?
We accept that it is not possible to prove scientifically that God exists. Equally you have to accept that it is not possible to prove scientifically that God does not exist! There is clear scientific evidence in the world around us that is most consistent with the existence of God. This includes the amazing fact of life itself – the order, beauty, complexity and ‘fine tuning’ of the universe so that life is even possible on planet earth. Also, it is hugely mathematically improbable that complex life should exist apart from the creative acts of an intelligent Designer. The supreme demonstration to all of us that God exists, however, is the person of Jesus. Jesus is the image of the invisible God. We invite you honestly to assess this evidence for God by reading about the life of Jesus in Mark’s gospel, the second book of the New Testament.
Are you agnostic?
It must surely be highly unsatisfactory to be unable to come to a view on the most important issues of life. The evidence for God is very strong (see above). We would encourage you to make the effort to investigate it and to recognise that ultimately neutrality is impossible. Jesus says whoever is not for him is against him.
Are you disillusioned?
You may have been searching for something, perhaps for many years. However you have still not found what you are looking for. Jesus does have the answer in a way that nobody else does.
Maybe you’re successful
You may have been very successful so far in your life. You may have achieved most, maybe all, of your aims in life. Despite this you still don’t feel complete. You are aware that something is missing. Without Jesus your life will never be complete.
Are you hurting?
You may be hurting deep inside. This could be because of the way in which life has been treating you. It could be because of what other people have done. It could be because of your own mistakes. Jesus understands your pain whatever has caused it. He is the only one who can bring real peace and healing.
Do you want to change the world?
You may care passionately about the world we live in and feel deeply about the many things that are wrong. Things such as: the environment, hunger, cruelty to animals, war, exploitation of the weak and vulnerable and others. You are prepared to use your time and energy in seeking to change things for the better. Such concerns are very close to the heartbeat of God Himself. Jesus taught this when he said that the second commandment is for us to love our neighbour as ourselves. However you need to recognise that Jesus taught that there is a prior command that comes before the command to love others. That is that we should love God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength. God wants our concern for the world around us to be in the context of our personal devotion to Him above all else.
Are you seeking?
Perhaps you have been seeking to find the real meaning and purpose of life or real happiness for a long time. We can definitely tell you that if you find Jesus you will find satisfaction in Him.
Do you believe that all roads lead to God?
On the face of it this appears to be very attractive. It seems to be a kind and non-confrontational approach. However it doesn’t make sense because the different world religions all have very different teaching about who “god” is and how we achieve eternal happiness. The fact is that Jesus was utterly uncompromising in claiming to be the only way to God. He said “I am the way the truth and the life, no-one comes to the Father, except through me”.
Do you already have a faith in some other religion?
Jesus is unique among all the founders of the major world religions. Only Jesus claimed to be God Himself. He said that He and the Father are one; and that whoever had seen Him had seen the Father. When someone tried to refer to Him simply as a teacher come from God, Jesus responded by insisting that He is God Himself. No other founder of a major world religion has made such a claim.

Perhaps you can’t accept the claims of Christianity to be true
Perhaps you believe that if something is true for a person then it is true, no matter what it is. You would reject the possibility of human beings like us being able to be sure that anything is ultimately true. Jesus made it clear that the answer to this difficulty is Himself. Ultimate truth is a person: Jesus. Jesus said: “I am the truth”. Knowing Jesus is to know the truth. The message of Christianity is that we can know Jesus now by the power of the Holy Spirit and as we turn to Him in faith. Are you a Christian but not going to church?
God wants every Christian to get connected to a local Christian church. God himself is relational in his divine nature. He is three persons each fully God – Father, Son & Holy Spirit – united in infinite love – one God. He brings every Christian into a relationship with himself through Jesus, and that means that every Christian is connected to all other Christians too. That connection can be expressed in a variety of ways. The primary and essential way is by joining a local church. That is where we worship together, learn from the Bible together, and serve God & others together. Christian community begins in the local church and ends in heaven and the new universe. The local church is pictured in the New Testament as God’s household or family, as one body with many parts and as a building that is being built to the praise of Jesus, the Head of his church.
