We love the bible, but there is room for good quality books, which not only inform and educate, but can guide

HOLINESS - J C Ryle

The Bishop of Liverpool wrote over a hundred years ago these words: “I have had a deep conviction for many years that practical holiness and entire self-consecration to God are not sufficiently attended to by modern Christians in this country....sound evangelical doctrine is useless if it is not accompanied by a holy life. It is worse than useless, it does positive harm”.

This book is for all serious-minded Christians. It is the antidote to superficial Christianity and comes with a tremendous challenge, not only for the Christian church in general today, but to us as individuals, especially in the light of Hebrews 12:14: “Without holiness no one will see the Lord”.

I CAN PLOD - John Appleby

It's the story of William Carey. “Young man , sit down! When God pleases to convert the heathen He will do it without your aid or mine”. Such was the rebuke that Carey received from John Ryland when he spoke about his desire to go to India with the gospel. It was late in the 18th century and the beginning of what is now called “The Modern Missionary Movement”. But with a reluctant wife, a missionary brother who proved to be unreliable and facing the animosity of the powers that be, he left his little church in Northamptonshire never to return to England.
The first convert came after 7 years. But Carey was the man who said, “I can plod”. Not very exciting? Read the book. Beautifully written by retired GBM missionary John Appleby, who spent many years in South India.

OUTGROWING THE INGROWN CHURCH - C John Miller

This is for those who want to think through the issues of church life. The author's complaint is that many churches become self-absorbed, secure in their traditions and inward looking. Jack Miller offers Biblical and radical answers in seeking Godly change in the local church.

WHAT DID YOU EXPECT? - Paul David Tripp

It's one of the those books where the title says it all. Aren't Christians some of the most unrealistic people you meet? It's about marriage. “More couples than I can number have been surprised that their marriage needs the regular rescue of grace”. So writes the author. This book is not only about two sinners in a life-long relationship, it also has much to say in general about relationships in the church of Jesus Christ.

TURNING POINTS - Vaughan Roberts

Is there meaning to life? Is life a random thing or is there a controlling factor? Where do I fit into the grand scheme of things?

BITESIZE THEOLOGY - Peter Jeffery

Church history is not a dull subject. Furthermore, many of the errors that some fall into could be avoided if we understood the past. Plus, we see the guiding hand of God throughout the 20 centuries since the early church.
